SARA - St Albans Residents Association

The St Albans Residents Association (SARA) is a community-led organisation that supports a vibrant and connected neighbourhood. Since 1986, SARA has empowered residents to take part in shaping the future of St Albans through local projects, advocacy, and shared resources. It is a registered charity, led by a volunteer committee and supported by over 4,000 hours of volunteer time each year.

SARA provides key community resources, including the St Albans Community Centre, the St Albans News, and the St Albans Strategy—based on input from more than 1,800 residents. It also supports local groups such as Wednesday Wheelies, the St Albans History Group, Café Chat, Friends of Abberley Park, Kohinga Māra, and St Albans Predator Free.

The Community Centre at 1049 Colombo Street is a hub for events and activities, open weekdays from 9am to 1pm. SARA also works alongside residents and local authorities to advocate for better housing, transport, and green spaces across St Albans.

SARA Committee

The committee is a group of residents elected annually by the wider membership to manage the business of the association. They act as stewards of the organisation, guiding its direction and ensuring it stays true to its purpose throughout the year.

Committee meetings are held every second month from February, on the third Wednesday at 7pm, at Te Kohinga St Albans Community Centre. These meetings are open to the public, and all are welcome to attend. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the St Albans Residents’ Association is held each September.
