Te Kohinga St Albans Community Centre

About Te Kohinga

Te Kohinga St Albans Community Centre is a welcoming hub at the heart of St Albans, offering versatile, modern spaces for educational, cultural, and recreational activities. Rebuilt after the 2011 earthquakes and reopened in 2021, the centre features a large hall, three meeting and education rooms, and an open-plan kitchen that flows onto a sunny outdoor deck. Designed with sustainability in mind, the beautiful all timber building is carbon neutral and reflects Christchurch City Council’s
climate goals.

Whether hosting workshops, community gatherings, private events, or local celebrations, Te Kohinga provides accessible, inclusive facilities—complete with wheelchair friendly design, an assistive hearing loop, and gender neutral amenities. Its thoughtfully crafted spaces and warm timber interior make it a cherished place for connection, creativity, and community life in St Albans.

At Te Kohinga, meaningful connections naturally flourish. As a vibrant hub of local life, the centre brings neighbours and people together through shared activities, workshops, celebrations, and community initiatives.

The centre is open to the public Monday to Friday 9am to 1pm and is a great place to visit and catch up on the happenings in the community and perhaps even discovered a local project you want to add your energy too.
